Street scenes like the above, reminiscent of Buffalo or Chicago caused roads to shut down by 2PM. Most area banks abandoned ship by 12 noon, leaving OBXers without a means to acquire quick loans in this bustling economy. By 1PM Food Lion was devoid of water, bread, toilet paper, and Budweiser. Gas lines stretched for 100 yards in some cases.
By 3PM, Martial law had been declared in most area towns to prevent looting. This thwarted plans by this writer and Bob Muller to raid Chip's Wine and Beer when no one was looking. We settled instead for homemade snow cream, fortified by East Lake moonshine. The remainder of the day seemed to go much slower after that...

Nice work Russ. Couldn't agree more. The landscape is difficult out there though. We have developed/allowed a media to be created who's sole job is to create decisiveness and therefore 'news'. What good would it do for ratings if all of us were to be supportive, use polite professional dialog and debate to address and work out our differences?
Another thought occurred to me a few days ago while watching the survivors of the splash landing in NY. At that time, they weren't liberals, conservatives, democrats, republicans, libertarians, white, black, man or woman. They were united in their mission of survival. They won! A model for all of us.
It's been a while Russ. Glad that you have found your voice again. I always enjoyed the demockracy strip (enough of a clue as to who i am?).
Whoops, posted to wrong entry. Leave it to a geek.
Wow. Thanks. But no, I am still in the dark! The number of folks who still remember DeMOCKracy are pretty small, although I plan to trot out some old strips on this blog. I found one site on the web that archived a few. Somewhere in the house I believe I have every single one, including those published by the Washington Times.
But I digress. I am old and need more clues!
